About this Event
Differentiation with Engaging Open-Ended Tasks (Years R-6)
Come and enjoy a fabulous, thought provoking numeracy session by a master presenter. Find out about guaranteed ways to engage your students in Maths.
Rob will lead by example, demonstrating a range of minimum preparation, engaging and mathematically worthwhile Maths activities. Rob's session will look at some highly effective, problem solving methods with easy entry and high ceiling for all students .... his approaches just work, and you'll never look back.
Effective Differentiation in Maths: What do we have that we can bring to the maths table to help cater for the range of abilities we all have in our classrooms (R – 8)
Most teachers would agree that two of the most challenging aspects of their jobs are catering for the range of ability in their classroom and trying to manage challenging student behaviour. These two challenges are related. Disengaged students play up and students who find the work too hard play up. In addition, self-esteem issues are always there when students see they are doing different/easier work than their peers.
Open-ended tasks directly address these issues. Students thrive in open-ended situations. They might come to that task with different skills and levels of understanding BUT they’re all doing the same task. No need for three different tasks for three (or in some cases even more) different ability groups. One task – all students. Winner, winner!
Rob will take you through a range of open-ended tasks specifically designed for Year 3 to 6 students. They will also show you how to create your own tasks to ensure engagement and success for all of your students.
