About this Event
Positive Birth and Parenting Workshop (Face to Face & Online) Sunday consists of 2 sessions held on consecutive Sundays. Each session runs for 6 hours, and includes a lunch break. The program consists of the Birth Course curriculum as well as content that will assist you in your journey as new parents. If you attend this program you are entitled to attend a breastfeeding workshop free.
Birth Course at Westmead Hospital is a unique childbirth preparation that brings together only evidence based techniques and practices. The techniques that you learn for your birth in this course have been subjected to a randomised controlled trial (conducted by Kate Levett and published in the British Medical Journal in 2016). This trial demonstrated significantly improved outcomes for women and babies.
The workshop starts promptly at 9am. Please arrive at 8.45am for registration so the day can begin on time.
YOU MUST BE BIRTHING YOUR BABY AT WESTMEAD HOSPITAL TO RECEIVE A DISCOUNTED FEE. ALL WOMEN BOOKED TO BIRTH THEIR BABY AT ANOTHER HOSPITAL MUST PAY FULL FEE.
It is recommended to book this workshop if you are due between the 16th May and 18th July 2021

- Positions for labour and birth – being active
- Normal birth
- Techniques for labour and birth
- Breathing and relaxation
- Tour of the Birth Unit
- Birth requiring medical assistance
- Calming an unsettled baby
- Communicating with your baby
- Parenting issues – including postnatal depression, returning to work, roles and identities.

Cost of the Sunday Workshop also includes a free registration to the Antenatal Breastfeeding Workshop You will be required to insert your Sunday workshop booking number to get the free registration.
The Sunday workshop will be held in the Seminar rooms of the Education and Conference Centre at Westmead Hospital (enter via the main entrance of the hospital) in either Seminar room 5,6 , 7 or theatre 4. A sign will indicate which room you are in.
Please be aware that you will be required to pay for parking if you choose to park within the hospital grounds.
This program is an interactive workshop designed to enhance your birthing and early parenting experience.

Do I bring my partner along to all the classes with me? Partners are encouraged to attend. If your partner can't make it then you can bring along a support person.
What can/can't I bring to the event? You may like to bring a snack. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable? No
Can I update my registration information? Yes, you can return to the booking page to do so.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. You can print out or save on the Eventbrite app if you wish.
What is the refund policy?
A full refund may be given only in the following circumstances:
- Premature birth
- Hospital admission
- Cancellation request 3 weeks prior to the class commencement date
If less than three weeks’ notice will incur a fee of $30.00. NO REFUND will be given for cancellation requests less than three days before a class commences. NO REFUND will be given for change of mind after the program has commenced.
Private Health Fund rebates are available. A certificate is issued on request.
