Stories of Courage, Resilience and Survival

The event will be delivered online with a link to follow.

In 2013 Sarah-Jane Staszak(SJ) went in for what she thought was routine back surgery only to come out a quadriplegic.

SJ had to come to terms with the horrible reality of her disability. She’d taught abseiling and rock climbing in the Blue Mountains for a living and was a passionate skier. The outdoor adventure life was an important part of who she was.

In ensuing years she lost the will to live. It was her son Hamish and her black labrador Cozie who kept her alive, she says.

On Sunday, September 27, SJ will be talking with Phil Voysey via Zoom about her battle with quadriplegia and the part her two best mates have played in her rehabilitation.

She will be sharing insights on how to cope with overwhelming adversity. SJ has returned to the slopes and is skiing once again.

The final conversation in the series in November features Vicki McCauley talking about her husband's death attempting to be the first person to kayak solo from Australia to New Zealand and her personal struggle to overcome grief and recreate her life.
