Explore Iznik and Tezhip (Illumination) patterns using watercolour medium.
Improve your brushstroke and colour skills in this easy and relaxing watercolour class. Explore motifs and patterns that developed between the 10th and the 16th centuries in the Islamic world, and most notably in the Ottoman Empire. Illumination or Tezhip was applied to Quranic script and other manuscripts. This art form is based on the Islamic geometric art, but the geometry is usually covered with organic, free flowing shapes inspired from nature.
In this class, participants will use traditional watercolour pigments on hand-made deckle edge papers in which designs will be pre-traced on. You will have the option of choosing one large A4 watercolour paper, or two A5 papers.
The series combines three classes into one; floral motifs, Iznik & Tezhip and Islamic geometry. All classes part of this series will be conducted together and you will have the option of choosing your own design templates.
MUGHAL, GEOMETRIC AND IZNIK PATTERNS
The series intertwines the elegance of Mughal and Islamic floral motifs, the precision of geometric designs, and the enchanting Turkish Iznik patterns. In this class you will use premium watercolour pigments on handmade deckle-edge papers.
