Building a Community with Chris Keys

About

Join us for an interesting and informative talk with Chris Keys, president of the Dandenong and District and the Springvale Historical Societies.

First settlers to the area realised the value of the local timbers, harvesting the large red gum and hauling them to the sawmills and timber yards, to be cut into lengths to be transported to Melbourne.

This soon became one of the earliest Dandenong industries, and formed the basis for the buildings, bridges and fences, that created the basis of settlement in the Dandenong area.

Chris will elaborate on this history, the many characters in the timber industry, how the timber was used and changes over time. Following the talk, a delicious afternoon tea will be served.

Free event, bookings required.
