COURSE DESCRIPTION

This two-day course is designed to advance participants skills of observation, analysis and interpretation of task performance.

Participants will be able to observe, analyse and explain typical movement while identifying individual variations of posture and movement relevant to functional tasks.
It is a practical course with the focus on therapists developing their skills of observation of posture and movement, with the practice of facilitation of typical movement.

This two-day course is designed to advance participants skills of observation, analysis and interpretation of task performance. Translation of this knowledge is relevant for ALL therapists working in paediatric practice, including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech Pathologists.

This course is 1 module of the complete Foundation Bobath Certification, and it incorporates frameworks of clinical reasoning and problem-solving.

It can also be completed independent of the overall training.

By the end of this course, participants will;

  • Develop a systematic way to observe, analyse and describe task performance including detailed description of the postural and movement components.
  • Understand biomechanical principles and theories of motor control relevant to movement analysis.
  • Identify individual variations of posture and movement and analyse the impact on task performance and refined skill acquisition.  
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully guide others through various sequences of movement relevant to paediatric practice.  
  • Develop ways of using specific therapeutic handling as well as other environmental influences to modify an individual’s typical movement strategies.
  • Describe and evaluate their own and others’ experiences when using therapeutic handling.
  • Understand how therapeutic handling is used within clinical practice.

The workshop is predominantly practical, and involves both observation and hands-on facilitation practicals. Please bring a soft doll to use during the facilitation practicals, and wear comfortable clothing.

Catering will be provided. Please advise in the registration form of any dietary requirements.
