“Mindfulness” in recent years has become a term that is easily thrown around and become part of mainstream dialogue. With an abundance of Mindfulness coloring books and phone apps on the market – the concept of Mindfulness has been reduced to a simplistic activity or another method of mere distraction from thoughts, feelings and experiences. This has created great misunderstanding both within the public domain however also the therapeutic community. Mindfulness is now commonly being recommended as a basic self-care task along with ‘going for a walk’ -without further education given. This has lead to a decline in effectiveness of Mindfulness- based approaches and also a decline in the willingness of clients to learn and practice clinically recommended Mindfulness strategies. Jules is a Senior Mental Health Clinician determined to change this at least within the therapeutic community.
