City of Stonnington is delighted to launch our new Roving Repair Program with Let Me Be Frank.

Through this program we want to empower the community to develop skills and confidence to repair items instead of throwing them away.

In our modern world, it often feels easier to buy something new, than to fix what we have. But if we knew how to repair the things we already own, we could give them a second chance. This will reduce waste, save money, and help keep quality items in circulation for longer.

About the program

City of Stonnington has a goal is to reduce waste going to landfill and to help you hold on to treasured items, by promoting repair and reuse.

We are committed to creating a supportive space where everyone is welcome. If our expert repairers can’t fix your item, we will advise you on what to do.

At these events we will support you to learn and share knowledge.

About this event

We will have a range of repairers on hand to help you with textile repairs, such as sewing, darning, knitting and crochet.

Watch this space for updates on the types of repairs we will be working on at the event.

House Rules

  • Attendees must register on arrival and we will do our best to match you to the appropriate repairer.
  • There may be wait times. We encourage people to observe repairs/chat to others if waiting.
  • To cut down on wait times during busy periods, a maximum of ONE broken item per person will be examined. The visitor will join the back of the queue if there is a second item for repair.
  • We cannot guarantee items will be repaired. Repairers / volunteers are entitled to refuse to repair certain items.
  • The work carried out is performed free of charge by the repairers at hand, as part of Stonnington’s Roving Repair Progam.
  • Attendees can carry out the repairs themselves if possible, with repair experts on site to help advise as necessary.
  • Items may be repaired in a DIY fashion. If you want perfection we recommend seeking a professional repairer and paying for their service.
  • Attendees offering broken items for repair do so at their own risk. We offer no guarantee on repaired items. Neither the organisers nor repairers are liable for any loss that may result from advice or instructions concerning repairs.
  • Repairers are not obliged to reassemble disassembled appliances that cannot be repaired. Especially if they have people waiting for repairs.
  • We will test where appropriate but cannot guarantee that items work properly once you take them home.
  • Repairers and attendees have a right to feel welcome and safe. Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated. If someone is making you feel unwelcome or unsafe please let a member of staff know.
