CLASS 1: Preparing for late pregnancy and normal labour (Midwife)
- Living with pregnancy (tips and remedies)
- Physical and emotional changes during pregnancy
- Signs and stages of labour and birth
- Tour of Maternity Unit
CLASS 2: Pregnancy Fitness (Physiotherapist)
- Anatomy of the pelvis, muscles and ligaments - function and changes in pregnancy and labour
- Exercise for abdominal, lower back and pelvic floor muscles
- General fitness for pregnancy, labour and after birth
- Relaxation session
CLASS 3: Managing normal labour (Midwife)
- Normal labour - understanding your body's response
- Role of partner and support people
- Pain relief options during labour and birth
- Active birth techniques (Movement, Positions, Breathing patterns) - to keep you calm and confident through labour
CLASS 4: Managing normal birth and unexpected outcomes (Midwife)
- Medical aspects of birth - Induction, Vacuum, Forceps, Perineal tear, Caesarean Section
- Normal birth - Positions and Breathing patterns
- Using water for labour and birth
- Relaxation session (10min - optional at the end of the class)
CLASS 5: Your newborn baby and breastfeeding (Midwife)
- Your baby's first hour
- The first few days in hospital and home for Parents, Baby and Support
- Midwifery in the Home (MiTH)
- Breastfeeding and settling
CLASS 6: Early Parenthood (Midwife)
- Parenting issues and lifestyle changes
- Practical skills with dolls - nappy changing, massaging, tummy time, dressing, wrapping, safe sleeping
- Communicating with your baby and normal newborn behaviours
- Support services and resources
All sessions are facilitated by a Registered Midwife and Physiotherapist.
We recommend that you START around 26 - 30 weeks of pregnancy
if Online sessions - Please relax at home in your lounge room and have ready
an Armless chair to straddle, 2 Tennis balls (for massaging) and wear comfortable loose clothing.
