Puccini’s dramatic master-work only gains in impact as the decades roll on. Viewed originally as an a-typical 19th century example of feminine strength and independence, today’s audiences revere this very quality as a significant milestone in the centuries long march of emancipation. This pocket production captures the musico-dramatic power of the score and libretto but is also laced with comic interjections from the Sacristan which many productions fail to recognise as a balancing theatrical element that Puccini intended. A semi-staged pocket production presented in BYO cabaret style.
