Welcome to Comedy Pilot Club, where the freshest, funniest, and friendliest comedy minds come together to read, celebrate, and crack the comedy industry wide open (from the comfort of our own home). Whether you’re a writer, actor, or just want to discover new (and hilarious) voices, the Comedy Pilot Club will be a fun place to come hang out. (ONLINE ONLY RIGHT NOW!).

Agents, producers, commissioners, and broadcasters are searching (yearning) for diverse and original voices, but if you’re a comedy creative, it can feel so hard to be seen. F*ck that.

Our aim is to break down industry barriers and shine a light on new talent no matter where you live or your financial situation. These live online sessions will feature comedy industry speakers, script readings (of YOUR comedy pilots), and a little workshopping to inspire you (the writer) and help improve your comedy writing skills.

Session One – The Comedy Pilot Script Read

  • The PRODUCERS:
    • 2 x TV comedy producers will be talking about the first ‘ten pages’ and what specifically gets their attention in those critical opening scenes.
    • A great opportunity to take copious notes so you can see how to make those ten page bloody great!
  • The READ THROUGH:
    • We will do a read through of 3-4 pilot scripts (First 10 pages). Come see why we picked who we did!
    • After the first read through, the writer will give/receive some feedback in the form of compliments and questions. We may then re-work a scene, or a few gags may be added/taken away and/or attempted in a way that wasn't in the first run-through. Like a live writer's room. (A writers zoom, if you will - Okay, sure, I'll grab my coat).
  • The FEEDBACK:
    • The feedback will come in all different shapes and sizes, and will likely be different with each script (we will be looking to see what works and what doesn't, so stick with us kids, this is the CPC's first outing) -- But as a spectator you will have the chance to be involved. The only rule? Be nice, be very, very nice.
    • Your camera will remain off (if you're a spectator), but the microphone will be on during the readings. This is so we can receive live feedback from the audience. (WE NEED YOU!)

Who this is an opportunity for? Comedy people!

  • Writers – Sharpen your comedy spear by seeing your work out loud, whilst also watching other new comedy scripts being read and improved. Take notes, feel inspired, ask questions, and build your comedy network (There will be a hangout room after)
  • Actors - People in the TV industry will be attending these sessions, so the actors doing the read-throughs will have the chance to show off their skills - so even if you're not in this run, come by, see how it's done as we will be casting new people every session. Or just come and see how & what they do with the lines! (We also plan to dedicate further sessions to performers also).
  • Humans/Spectators/Comedy lovers – Get a front row seat from the comfort of your own home. When that hit show makes it big, you can say you saw it here first (on zoom!).

*Side note: TV producers, casting directors and development folk have been invited and it's looking very likely that many will be spectating from the sidelines*
