Miyawaki (Pocket) Forest Field Tour, Tuesday 21 May

About

Miyawaki pocket forests are designed as compressed forests for small areas. Originating from Japan and ideal for urban environments, these forests intensify the biodiversity, urban heat reduction and carbon sequestration benefits compared with traditional restoration methods.

Please join us for a visit to one of the first Miyawaki forests in Western Australia, which is part of a research program investigating how these forests can be adapted to thrive in a local context.

The tour will be led by Dr Grey Coupland, Ecologist and Urban Forest Program Leader, Harry Butler Institute, Murdoch University, and Stephy Poly, Head of Urban Forest Initiatives, Carbon Positive Australia. Attendees will be guided through development of the 200 metre squared forest, and look at the native species selection, density, shape, location and utility.
