About
In this special event inspired by Paris: Impressions of Life 1880 – 1925, hear about the journey of precious Dja Dja Wurrung cultural belongings exhibited in Paris in 1878, and their eventual return home to Country 140 years later.
Join Rodney Carter, Djaara CEO and Dja Dja Wurrung Elder, to hear insights into his long-running research into historic Dja Dja Wurrung cultural materials in museum collections, and the profound significance of the return of these Djaara belongings in 2018.
Rodney will also be joined by Dr Jocelyn (Joss) Bardot, Australian National University, for a discussion about the Dja Dja Wurrung material travelling to Paris, and the phenomenon of ‘World’s Fairs’ during this intensive period of dispersal of Aboriginal cultural materials.
Please note that this session will include discussion of sensitive subject matter, including colonial violence, cultural destruction, and names of people who are deceased.
