Beginners Learn to Crochet The Easy Way!

Join teacher Sarah Dally from pickles goes to market for an educational yet enjoyable and relaxed afternoon, learning to crochet in the easiest way: all materials inclusive, including bonus materials for you to take home!

Discover the sense of accomplishment and contentment of learning the basics of crochet, whilst reducing your impact on the environment.

Date: Every month (except Dec & Jan)

Time: 2pm - 5pm

Location: The Nest Community, The Sheds, 264 South Pine Road, Brendale, QLD 4500

During this in-person event, your experienced instructor will guide you through the basics of the base stiches and techniques used in crochet in this absolute beginner friendly workshop.

Initially, you will make an eco-friendly pot holder using a giant hook and upcycled t-shirt yarn. This allows you to learn the basic stitches, whilst - not only easily being able to see what you are doing - but also not having to think about how to use the hook or feed the yarn through your fingers.

We will then transfer this knowledge onto a smaller hook & yarn, creating samples for your take home stitch reference booklet. This is where you will learn how to angle/use the hook and wind the yarn through your fingers as feeders.

Lastly, we will make a textured facewasher, using premium quality 100% cotton yarn, with an additional rolled flower pattern for you to make at home.

You will leave the day feeling totally confident crocheting in rows, with all the base stitches, and a reference booklet with both stitch diagrams and your samples.

Overall learning outcomes:

· Learn to crochet in rows.

· Learn basic foundation stitches (chain, slip stitch, double crochet, treble crochet).

· Learn to recognise above stitches in completed work

· Learn abbreviations and symbols used in patterns.

· Recognise the difference, and how to translate, UK vs US patterns.

· Learn and experience using different types of crochet yarn.

Learn how to make your own eco-friendly upcylced t-shirt yarn.

There is also an additional (optional) follow up workshop each month:

'Follow up Learn to Crochet In The Round and more!' covering circular/round crochet including granny squares, and variations of the base stitches, for those still preferring an in person style learning modality.

By attending this event, you'll not only learn a new craft, but also be able to continue lowering your carbon footprint at home.
