A guide for dynamic Raqs Sharqi improvisation
Approaching improvisation can often feel daunting, confusing or just a bit too all over the place.
In this workshop Laila will go through multitudes of ways to approach improvisation providing a structured and practical toolkit that can be used when performing or practiced at home.
We will explore ways to use aspects such as musicality, spatial relations, patterns and movement transitions to create improvisation that feels grounded, present and reflective of you, the music and the context.

Bio
Laila was introduced to Raqs Sharqi from a young age performing and attending workshops alongside her mother. Her dance has also been influenced by her father’s Chaldean-Armenian Syrian family, dancing on old Egyptian VHS, and an exposure to the Sydney Belly Dance community of the 90’s. More recently she’s traveled to Lebanon, Turkey and Egypt to further her study of the dance .
