History Talk: Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers

From early times, in the ancient world, there have been pirates preying on commercial trading ships on the high seas. Land pirates were called bandits and, in Australia, bushrangers. In “the golden age of piracy”, privateers and buccaneers had added to the ranks. Piracy still exists in the world today.

This presentation by local historian, Lloyd Pitcher, examines some of the significant pirates and what they did to achieve notoriety.
