SKILLZ | After School Program | South Hedland

A 6 week after school program for 8–11-year old to promote mental wellbeing by through mindfulness positive coping strategies.

This 6-week Thursday after school program is for 8-11 years to promote mental wellbeing by managing feelings through mindfulness, positive coping strategies and building resilience.

Sessions include elements of the Peaceful Kids Program, which include learning a range of mindfulness strategies.

Outcomes from program include:

- To build emotional resilience

- To empower children to self-manage their anxiety

- Teaches children a range of effective coping strategies

- Teaches children to self-regulate

- To develop and practice a range of positive coping strategies

- Teaches children lifelong skills to manage stress and prevent stress build up

These sessions will be held at different venues:

23 July - South Hedland Public Library

30 July - South Hedland Public Library

6 August - South Hedland Public Library

13 August - JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub

20 August - JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub

27 August South Hedland Public Library

When

This workshop runs weekly for 6 weeks on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Please note attendance for all dates above are mandatory.

Youth aged 8 to 11 who has a family member or a friend living with a mental health challenge or is at risk of developing a mental health challenge themselves

After school program important info

• If your child has not received support from HelpingMinds before (or within the last 6 months) a phone interview will need to take place with the parent/guardian for file

• A consent form will need to be signed by both parents.

• External support workers are not allowed at the workshop.

• Children require adequate independent coping skills to be able to deal with group situations.

• Your child must either have a family member or a friend living with mental health challenge or is at risk of developing mental health challenge themselves.

• All our workshops have a maximum capacity to ensure our counsellors can provide adequate professional support for all children attending.
