Arts on Site: Capturing the light of photography with Katie Barron

Join artist Katie Barron to sketch the light of photography in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 59.

Nature is wonderous in myriad ways. We can appreciate nature from across the globe through the power of photography - with light playing a crucial role in composition.

From the use of lighting to highlight a subject to the strategic use of shadows for framing, lighting can help infuse a scene with power and emotion.

Our next Arts on Site workshop examines the importance of lighting in photography. Discover how the artists featured in our Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition have mastered light to elevate their subjects.

Utilise these lighting techniques to inform your own recreation of an iconic image from the exhibition as Tasmanian artist Katie Barron guides you in reproducing an image through sketching techniques, in preparation for acrylic and oil painting.

On conclusion, participants will have a beautiful sketch to admire — and those who wish to develop their sketch into a painting will be primed to continue.

In this workshop you will not only receive expert instruction on sketching, but also a deeper understanding of using light to enhance a subject. Elevate your artistic skills and lighting composition awareness through still imagery.
