Opening night: Collection in focus, Hannah Cooper and Act Up

Come one and all for first glimpses of our brand new exhibitions.

Come one and all for first glimpses of our brand new exhibitions!

The Gallery is excited to launch Collection in focus, an extensive hang of over 100 works from the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery's permanent collection, cultivated over its forty year history. Featuring works by artists near and far, and including sculptures, paintings, works on paper and video, the exhibition draws attention to relationships, histories and journeys built over time by the Gallery through dedication to artistic practices and the voices of our locale.

In Gallery 2, Southern Highlands based artist Hannah Cooper presents Warping the weft, an exhibition devoted to our prevalent connection to textiles. The production of domestic textiles present in everyday life has heavily influenced Cooper's artistic work, which plays with (and pushes against) the formal language of geometric abstraction and the structural and creative constraints of weaving.

Taking over the Gallery’s Window space, Act Up presents perspectives on the queer experience that are poetic, provocative, and sparkled with hope. Working in collaboration with Bladwell Productions, local LGBTQAI+ community members and allies Act Up examines the role of artmaking as a form of social cohesion and loving protest. This interdisciplinary installation forms a celebration of dynamic identities, sock puppets and self-discovery through play.

The event will be opened by the one and only Jennifer Lamb OAM, the inaugural Director of the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery.

You won't want to miss this event celebrating the Gallery's past, present and future.
